The Sant Jordi de ses Salines Folk Group was created in 1982, following an initiative by the Parents’ Association (APA) of the Primary School. Sant Jordi, and its main objectives have always been the research, recovery, teaching, dissemination, and promotion of Ibizan customs and folklore. Currently, this Group is made up of around sixty dancers, singers, and musicians, with ages ranging from four years old to quite advanced ages. Throughout its trajectory, this association has participated in various folk events and exhibitions, both nationally (Boecillo, La Flecha, Valdepeñas, Cuéllar, Cuenca, Menorca, Valencia, Murcia, Los Realejos, Cantabria, Sondika, Madrid, Galicia, Almería, Mallorca, Logroño, La Gomera, Formentera, Estella, Agramunt, etc.) and internationally (Germany, Cyprus, Portugal, France, Switzerland, Austria, or Italy).
In recent years, it has sponsored various assets cataloged as being of cultural interest, such as es Pou Roig, where every August, specifically on the first Sunday after Santa Maria, from the late 80s until 2017, a popular dance was held, and s’Era de Cas Costes, where in 2011 a peasant day was commemorated for the first time. Currently, and since 2018, it celebrates, every August, on the first Saturday after St. Maria, a popular festival at l’Aljub de Can Burgos, with traditional peasant dance, bagpipes, songs, and games.
The Group actively participates in the Patron Saint Festivities of Sant Jordi de ses Salines and Sant Francesc de s’Estany and other festivals in different neighborhoods of the municipality, as well as in all public and institutional events when requested.
Annually, coinciding with the Patron Saint Festivities of Sant Jordi, it organizes the Folk Exhibition with the participation of other invited groups. The Group, with the intention of bringing its members closer to the rest of the citizens, organizes courses and workshops, popular festivals, and other activities not directly linked to Ibizan culture and traditions, such as carnival parades, Sant Joan bonfires, barbecues, popular walks, etc. All activities with high participation and attendance.
