In 1998, the Federation of Folk Dance and Popular Culture Collas of Ibiza and Formentera was founded, at the initiative of various representatives of the traditional dance Collas of the island of Ibiza (at the end of the article, we attach a copy of the minutes of the first meeting of the Collas, dated February 26, 1998).

In this blog, we will be sharing our activities and other articles related to dance and our culture, but in this first article, we reproduce the agreements adopted at that first meeting, which remain present in our daily lives to this day.

AGREEMENTS:

  • To seize the opportunity to unite the Collas and promote the Federation
  • All Collas consider it beneficial to launch the Federation
  • In the task of launching the Federation, always bear in mind that we must not impose, but rather work together.
  • Always keep in mind the autonomy of each Colla, hence the need for flexibility in drafting the statutes and internal regulations.
  • To inform the Formentera Collas of the matters presented at this meeting, taking advantage of the presence of a representative from Es Pastorells.

After several meetings and much work, on July 14, 1998, the first executive board was constituted, with Ms. Pepita Torres, representative of the Sant Jordi Colla, serving as its president. In 2000, Edu Sánchez, representative of the l’Horta de Jesús Colla, presided over the Federation. In 2002, following a change in the statutes, Toni Tur «Sendic», representative of the Colla des Broll, was appointed president and served until 2007. Currently, Maria Marí, representative of the Labritja Colla, holds the position.

During its 19 years of existence, 165 general assemblies, 20 Mare Nostrum festivals, 17 Popular Culture Days, 8 excursions and fellowship gatherings, and many other activities have already been held. But above all, every day we continue with even greater enthusiasm to move forward and work for our dance and culture of Ibiza and Formentera.
