Colla De Vila

The Folkloric Group Colla de Vila was founded in 1989, stemming from the folklore school created by the Ibiza City Council. Today, through an agreement with the City Council, we continue to teach ‘ball pagès’ and traditional instruments to anyone who wishes to learn. Also, thanks to the Consell Insular d’Eivissa (Island Council of Ibiza), we organize courses for making traditional Ibizan clothing (‘roba pagesa’) and other activities and dances.

During winter, we learn to dance, play the flute and drum, click the castanets, and rehearse as a group every Friday at the ‘CEIP Sa Graduada’ school. Here is a link if you wish to come and dance with us: https://maps.app.goo.gl/mj759RaxrCxi9KQe

In summer, we pause rehearsals and dedicate ourselves to performing public dances. For over thirty years, we have participated in the ‘Ballades a la fresca’ (Open-Air Dances) organized by the Ibiza City Council every Friday between June and September. For many years, they were held at the City Council Cloister, then at the Baluard de Sant Pere, at the Port of Ibiza (‘es Martell’), and in the middle of the Passeig de s’Alamera (Vara de Rei). We also always participate in the ‘Festes de la Terra’ (Island Festivities) in August, initiating the celebrations by parading in traditional carts through Vila, performing at the mass on August 5th at the Cathedral, paying tribute to the Corsairs, and other activities.

We perform dances with a more socio-cultural character and with the support of the Consell Insular (Island Council) for various neighborhood associations and the Can Raspalls day center.

Every year, we enjoy organizing an exchange with a group from outside the island, to showcase our customs and traditions, language, dances, and music beyond Ibiza. We greatly appreciate this exchange dynamic for fostering friendships and sharing experiences with other folkloric groups from around the world. As a result of these exchanges, we invite groups to the Mare Nostrum Festival organized by the Federation of Colles.

We have participated in national and international Folkloric Festivals, such as: Premià de Mar (1990), Palència (1991), Expo92 in Seville, World Festival of Palma de Mallorca (1993), Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (1994), Festival of Dances of the Old Crown of Aragon (1996), Onil (1998), Sòller Festivities (1999), Alcoi (2001), Vilafranca de Bonany (2002), Cultural Week of Sorrows (Murcia, 2003), San Juan de Plan (Huesca, 2004), Festival of Choirs and Dances of Torrox (Malaga, 2005), “X Folklore Exhibition” (Ávila, 2007), Patron Saint Festivities of Sagunto (Valencia, 2008), “Berlin Discovers the Balearics” (Berlin, 2008), Les Preses (Girona, 2009), XXXII Madridejos Town Festival (TOLEDO, 2010), San Miguel de Reinante (Lugo, 2011), Aragonese Center of Valencia (2014), Biar (Alicante, 2015), Frigiliana (Malaga, 2015), Bermeo (2016), Puertollano (Ciudad Real, 2017), Campos (Mallorca 2018), Sa Pobla (2018), Piornal (Plasencia, 2022), Espinho (Portugal, 2024), Poble Sec (Barcelona, 2025)

Annual participation in the events of “Junts per la llengua”, “Meeting of Solidarity Entities”, “Sant Jordi Day on Passeig de s’Alamera”, “Language Week at CEIP Can Misses”

We have participated in various national television programs such as: TVE, Antena 3, and Tele 5. Some of our members also appear in the reports produced by J.M. Bassols titled “El llegat de les pitiuses” (The Legacy of the Pityusic Islands).

For ten years, we organized a “Festa de Pou” (Well Festival) at «Pou den Mosson» from 2004 to 2014. In 2016, after twelve years of teaching our Colla to play, Josep Maria Cardona Serapio published the first “Mètode per aprendre a Sonar sa flaüta” (Method for Learning to Play the Flute) (Editorial Mediterrània, 2016), accompanied by the website https://sonarsaflauta.com/, which has become a visual reference for learning the three-hole flute.

Colla de Vila has been part, since its constitution, of the Federation of Dance and Popular Culture Colles of Ibiza and Formentera.
