Once again, the Mare Nostrum Folkloric Festival is here, this year taking place on September 22nd and 23rd. Nine folkloric groups, five Colles from Ibiza and the rest from Portugal, Italy, and Spain, will participate this weekend. The Festival is organized by the Federation of Dance Colles and Popular Culture of Ibiza and Formentera, with the sponsorship of the Council of Ibiza and the collaboration of the island’s municipalities.

The festival will be divided into two days:

On Saturday, September 22nd, at 7:30 PM, the Mare Nostrum Folkloric Festival will be in Vila, at Reina Sofia Park. There, the main event of this edition will feature the Grupo de Folclore de Abitureiras, from Santarém, Portugal, the Asociación Folklórica Virgen de las Cruces, from Daimiel, Ciudad Real, the Gruppo Popular Città dei Trulli, from Italy, the Grupo de Danzas Nuestra Señora de las Nieves, from Burgos, and Sa Colla de Vila, from Ibiza. In case of bad weather, the event will be moved to the Cas Serres Auditorium.

On Sunday, September 23rd, four performances will take place: two at 12:00 PM, one in the Church Square of Sant Joan de Labritja and one on the Passeig de ses Fonts in Sant Antoni de Portmany. The third will follow at 12:45 PM in the Church Square of Jesús, and the Festival will conclude at 8:30 PM in Can Burgos Park (Sant Jordi de Ses Salines).

The President of the Federation of Dance Colles and Popular Culture of Ibiza, Maria Marí, highlights the longevity and consolidation of the Mare Nostrum Folkloric Festival: “it is an event with a very positive reputation, well-known among popular culture groups throughout Spain and Europe, and we received many requests from groups wishing to participate.” The Island Councillor for Education, Heritage, Culture, Sports, and Youth, David Ribas, thanks the Federation for the “magnificent work it does year after year, through this festival, in disseminating our traditional music and dances and enabling the exchange of experiences with different groups and associations from such diverse places.”
